Arlys Kruse was born April 23, 1930 at Little Rock, Iowa. She was the daughter of William J. and Myrtle (Hallet) Lindaman. She grew up in the Little Rock area and graduated from the Little Rock High School in 1947. She then went to Estherville College and received her teaching certificate. When she was in her forty’s she went back to college and received her four-year teaching degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. She taught 10 years in country schools, then in Bigelow and Worthington, Minnesota. She was married to Andrew E. Kruse on July 30, 1948 at Little Rock. They lived in George for a short time, then moved back to Little Rock, Iowa in 1959. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, she played BINGO every Tuesday at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was a member of Women’s Club, loved to travel, enjoyed her dog, and was a member of the City Council for 10 years. She was know as the historian of Little Rock, Iowa writing two books on the subject. Arlys passed away Sunday, July 13 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa at the age of 78. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Clayton and wife Sharon Kruse of Boyden, Iowa and Kenny and wife Cheryl Kruse of Matlock, Iowa; five grandchildren, Scott, Chad, Alicia, Erica and Andy; one sister, Eleanor Hayes of Brighton, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; one son, Keith; and two brothers, William and Eldon.
