Edward Joseph Nauman was born November 25,
1923 at Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Edward Carl and Anna (Kielty) Nauman. He
lived his youth in the Charles City, Iowa area and graduated from the
Charles City High School, where he was the State Tennis Champion while at
the Charles City High School. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He married Helene Gerdes of Woden, Iowa on January 19, 1944 at Charles City,
Iowa. They lived in Charles City for a short time after their marriage. They
moved to George, Iowa in 1947. He worked for the Lyon County News as a
Linotype Operator and wrote several columns, Fishing Lines and The Thursday
Thoughts. He was a member of the bowling league for many years, was an
accomplished Cribbage player, and a member of the American Legion Jack
Sauter Post 404 of George, Iowa. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic
Church in Sibley, Iowa.
Ed passed away Tuesday, May 20, at the George Good Samaritan Center at the
age of 84.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Douglas and wife Patricia
Nauman of Anamosa, Iowa and Thomas and wife Eileen Nauman of Carlsbad,
California; two grandchildren, Lee Nauman and Kira and husband Brandon Hass.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helene; and infant son,
Richard.
